Quantum Ball is a surrealist short film that follows a seemingly ordinary man, caught in a cycle of boredom, as he begins to idly play with a red ball. What starts as a simple, mundane activity soon takes a strange turn when the ball begins to float and defy gravity, existing independently of the man’s touch. However, whenever he attempts to share this bizarre occurrence with another person, the ball immediately falls back to the ground, as if the strange phenomenon only exists within his own perception. This one-man show, shot, edited, and starring the same individual, is a deep dive into themes of isolation, the nature of perception, and the limits of reality.

Its unique, minimalist approach adds to its surreal charm, capturing the frustration and absurdity of a man’s attempt to prove the impossible. Quantum Ball was featured at the Southampton International Film Festival in 2019 as well as the Lift Off Film Festival, showcasing its inventive concept and the filmmaker’s impressive solo effort.
